(CNN) — The match between Portugal and Uruguay at Lusail Stadium in Qatar on Monday in the second round of Group H of the 2022 World Cup was briefly halted as a person carrying a rainbow flag stormed a competition field.
The incident occurred in the 51st minute of the match and FIFA’s global television broadcast avoided showing the intruder, but was seen running onto the pitch, dragging the flag while being chased by security officials, while an official was later seen raising the flag from the ground.
And the images from the “Getty” agency showed the ensign wearing a T-shirt with the words “Respect for Iranian women” and “Save Ukraine” on the back.
CNN contacted FIFA and tournament organizers for more information about the incident.
