A person has been declared dead in a boat accident in Tvedestrand, the police say

We are continuously working to inform relatives, says the police. The death was reported at 2.30 pm on Saturday afternoon.

The organizer has set crisis staff. There must have been only one boat involved in the accident, and there have been two people in the boat. The extent of the damage to the other person is not known.

The accident happened in connection with the event Møkkalasset Cup, which is an offshore regatta in Tvedestrand. The air ambulance landed on the spot shortly after 1 p.m.

– It now appears that the boat has hit a wave and then gone down, the police say.

The Norwegian Motorsport Association confirms to Tvedestrandsposten that there are people in a regatta boat involved in the accident.

Secretary General Tony Isaksen says that local crisis staff has been put in connection with the accident.

– Now the focus is on taking care of those involved, says Isaksen.

According to The Friend of the Fatherland starts the race in the inner harbor in Tvedestrand. From there, the race goes out Oksefjorden past Holmesund pier in Arendal municipality before the participants turn offshore.

The organizers have stopped the boat race as a result of the accident. According to the program, it must have been a traditional regatta when the accident occurred.
