Yesterday, 157 road traffic accidents were registered in Latvia, in which one person was killed, but 27 people were injured, which is significantly more than the daily average, the State Police informed LETA.
For the time being, only information has been provided about the accident in which a person died, that it took place in the Vidzeme region.
On Tuesday, 16 people were injured in accidents in and around Riga, five in Vidzeme, three in Zemgale, two in Latgale and one in Kurzeme. Seven of the victims were cyclists and five were pedestrians, and most of them were involved in accidents in the capital.
Yesterday, the police detained six drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol: two each – in Zemgale and Latgale, but one each – in Vidzeme and Riga region.
173 protocols have been drawn up for speeding drivers. In the vicinity of Riga, 46 drivers have been fined for violating the permitted driving speed, in Zemgale – 57, in Latgale – 34, in Kurzeme – 20, but in Vidzeme – 16 drivers.
In total, the police drew up 309 reports on traffic violations yesterday.
