Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
A commercial area in the area North Kemang, South Jakarta is in the public spotlight because a number of buildings in the area stand above waterways which is connected to the Mampang River.
Officials have even gone into direct observation this week to discuss the solution at the South Jakarta city government level.
The area being discussed is an area fenced in by a number of trees on the side of the North Kemang road. The area looks lower than the North Kemang road, so visitors who want to have to go down the complex road.
From the direction of the highway, the water channel connecting Mampang River stretches from the entrance to the end of the area. The rate of water in the channel seems to still flow smoothly, even though it is cloudy like most sewers in the Jakarta area.
Several officers from the South Jakarta Sub-dept. of Water Resources (SDA) were seen dredging the bottom of the Mampang River, Thursday (18/11) morning.
Entering the commercial area, there are at least five buildings that are divided into five terraces standing on a water channel about 3.5 meters wide. However, of the five tenants, only three buildings appear to be in use: two coffee shops, one bicycle shop.
While other buildings in the area that do not stand on the waterway are a restaurant, coffee shop, and mosque.

At first glance, there is nothing different when entering one of the cafes that stands above the water channel that is connected to the Mampang River.
Until when entering the inside of the cafe which borders the side of the river. Instead of presenting an interesting view for visitors, the cafe actually places a large glass on the side of the building facing the water channel.
Apart from that, there are no other obvious differences from the shop.
CNNIndonesia.com has tried to talk to the manager regarding the plan of action from the South Jakarta City Government. However, no confirmation was obtained. Security guards as well as a number of employees declined to speak further.

Outside that commercial area, one of the local residents that was met CNNIndonesia.com Those around the site said that the building above the aqueduct had been standing since at least 2007. Residents around, he said, suspect that the building above the water channel has an effect on flooding to the settlements behind it.
The reason is that he assessed that the rainwater that should have been channeled into the Mampang River was overflowing due to the presence of a number of buildings standing on it. In addition, he continued, the contours of the residential land surface are at the lowest point.
“It’s a flood here. Look at the building, it’s not even above the Mampang River wall. It’s definitely an obstacle,” said the man who did not want to be named.
Therefore, he hopes that the government can immediately take action against these buildings. Because in addition to causing flooding, according to him, the building has also violated the rules by standing on a water channel.
“Of course, residents hope that it can be followed up immediately. And it must be clear, there is a deadline and others, don’t just leave it to the owner,” he said.
Previously, the Head of Bangka Village, Firdaus Aulawy, said that local government officials would formulate actions to be taken regarding commercial buildings above the North Kemang waterway, South Jakarta.
