A pedestrian in New York (1st broadcast: 06/14/1959 Parisian Channel)

This is a documentary by Frédéric POTTECHER in which he describes what he sees and the encounters he has in New York (studio reconstruction of a walk in the city): the New York of the prohibition; the port of New York; the subway (“Subway”); the postman’s job in New York; the description of what you see from the skytrain; and the description of Times Square (that “advertising hurricane”).

We continue by the bridges of New York; a walk in a market and what you find there for lunch; the ROCKEFELLER Center and the view from the top of the building; the music hall at Radio City Hall; tunnels to clear traffic; the beauty of the city; Chinese, Jewish and Italian quarters; big stores ; a funeral ceremony and religious delirium.

Finally, we end with Harlem and its contrasts; all that constitutes the wealth of the city and the feast of Saint Patrick.

New York is indeed a city that is constantly being made and undone.
