A passenger from KMP Rishel falls into the Banten Merak sea

Hegel Angga Pratama (19), a passenger from the KMP Rishel ferry fell overboard Curiosity, Banten. It is suspected that the passenger deliberately fell overboard.

The incident occurred on Saturday (10/8/2022) at 1:15 am WIB in the morning. The resident of West Cimindi, Cibeureum, Cimahi, West Java reportedly fell overboard when the ship left Bakauheni Port, Lampung for Merak.

“At around 1:15 am WIB, the crew of the Rishel ship reported on the bridge that a person had fallen overboard with the features of a male, was wearing a gray T-shirt, navy blue jeans and had fallen to the left side of Deck 1 of KMP Rishel at 01.12 WIB, KMP Rishel reported that someone had fallen overboard, “Banten Basarnas office head Adil Triyanto said today in a written statement.

Adil said that when the crew reported the incident, the ship carrying the victim at that time could not turn back due to the narrow water conditions and bad weather.

“At that time KMP Rishel reported that the ship could not turn back due to narrow waters and bad weather with a wind speed of 24 knots and a wave height of 2 meters and was allowed to continue to dock at Pier 4 Merak, “he said.

Basarnas officers who received the information sent a team to look for the victims at 10:40 am WIB. As of 5:00 pm WIB, search efforts have yielded no results.

“The search results from 10.45 WIB to 17.00 WIB are still null and will continue tomorrow for current sea conditions, cloudy westerly weather and 1-1.5 meter waves,” he said.

The search will continue on Sunday (9/10) with joint officers from Polairud, Lanal Banten, BPBD, in Tagana.
