A passenger has died after becoming ill on a flight from Bulgaria to Liverpool, with the emergency forcing the plane to be diverted to Cologne, the Daily Mail reports.
Jet2 flight LS3214 departed Burgas for the UK shortly after 13:00 local time on 16 September.
About two hours into the flight, the crew declared an emergency due to the medical condition of a man on board.
The pilots requested an immediate diversion and the Boeing 737-800 landed in Germany after a quick descent.
The man reportedly went into cardiac arrest and despite the efforts of the passengers and crew on board, he expired.
According to AirLive, the plane was parked in a remote area of Cologne airport and a medical team arrived at the scene.
Flights back to the UK have been delayed until later this evening.
A Jet2 spokesperson said:
“We can confirm that flight LS3214 from Burgas to Liverpool John Lennon was diverted to Cologne on Monday 16 September due to a customer requiring medical attention.”
“Unfortunately, we can confirm that the customer has unfortunately passed away,” the statement read.
We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the customer’s family and friends at this very difficult time, the company added.
