A Palestinian protest disrupted an Israeli concert in London – 2024-10-01 15:18:55

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators have repeatedly disrupted a performance by the Israel Philharmonic at London’s famed BBC Proms festival to protest its links to the Jewish state’s military.

However, ahead of the event, Sarah Coleborne of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign urged: “Those who support peace and human rights should not attend the concert”.

Security was beefed up ahead of the music event at the famous Royal Albert Hall after demonstrators set up camp outside the building and warned visitors to rip up their tickets. But these measures could not prevent a group of about 30 people from disturbing the peace in the hall as soloist Gil Shaham prepared to play Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto.

The concert was conducted by Zubin Meta, who is celebrating 50 years with the orchestra and whose last appearance at the BBC Proms was in 2003. BBC Radio 3, which was broadcasting the event live, has temporarily suspended its broadcast. “We regret that, as a result of persistent disruption by the audience in the concert hall, which affected the ability to hear the music, tonight’s concert by the Israel Philharmonic has been taken off the air,” the British radio station said in a statement.
