The artist’s work was the highlight of the auction program. Estimates for the painting ranged between $30 million and $40 million until the bidding began. The same preliminary estimate was given to Roy Lichtenstein’s The Sleeping Girl, which also sold for 44.9 million, making The Sleeping Girl the highest-selling Lichtenstein painting.
