A woman who works full-time as an intensive care nurse has opened up about her financial struggles as she struggles to provide for her family.
Mackenzie Moan lives in Pennsylvania, and although she considers her salary combined with her husband’s total to be “a lot of money,” the couple must constantly live “paycheck to paycheck.”
It was in a TikTok video that Mackenzie admitted to struggling financially, explaining: “I feel like my husband and I are doing everything right. We both have good jobs. I’m a registered nurse, I work full time, he works full time. We just got paid last Friday and we paid the mortgage, bought some groceries, put gas in the car, and guys it’s Tuesday and we have about 200-300 dollars to last until ‘see you next Friday.”
While noting that she lives with her partner and their two sons in an 1,100 square foot residence that includes three bedrooms and one bathroom, Mackenzie insisted that she is really not living beyond her means: “ We don’t live in a big house. Someone has to do something to change this because I make a lot of money, he makes a lot of money, we don’t live beyond our means, but we live paycheck to paycheck . I’m in school full time, working full time, and he’s working more than full time, working overtime every week. I do not know what to do. I’m so stressed, this isn’t how it should be.”
The video has been viewed more than a million times and several Internet users have confided in the comments that they also had financial difficulties.
One person wrote: “I promise it’s not just you. It’s all of America.”
Another netizen said that “Salaries don’t keep up with inflation.”
Some people, however, have accused Mackenzie of feeling sorry for herself. The mother was quick to respond, explaining: “I didn’t make this video to ask for help or ask for an update on my finances, I didn’t ask for sympathy, I didn’t nothing asked in this video. The Internet is simply wild. It’s just crazy to me.”
Mackenzie, who has been a drug addict in the past, added: “I know I’m in a much better situation than a lot of people, I understand that, because I’ve been on the other side. I’ve been there and I’m extremely grateful for what I have. Yes, I am extremely lucky to have all these things, but I still have the right to be stressed about our financial situation.
Finally, Mackenzie concluded by calling for solidarity from internet users: “The fact is that we are all stressed and struggling should tell us that it is time to come together. We just need more kindness, love and acceptance.”
