A nurse at Turda Municipal Hospital injected adrenaline directly into the vein of a two-month-old baby instead of aerosolafter misunderstanding the directions of doctors.

After the baby’s mother arrived at the hospital with him, the baby was diagnosed with bronchiolitis, a viral infection that inflames the airways.

The doctor who took charge of the case recommended that he administer adrenaline aerosols. A senior nurse in the hospital ward was appointed for the administration. The nurse, on the other hand, injected the little adrenaline directly into the vein.

The newborn immediately began to feel ill and only the quick intervention of the doctors saved his life. After being stabilized, the child was transferred to the children’s hospital in Cluj-Napoca.

The hospital management recognized the mistake and decided to fire the employee who could cause a tragedy.

So far the family has not filed a complaint or notified the College of Doctors.

Adrenaline, especially in the doses administered to children, has precise indications for use. Shock to the body, especially when administered intravenously, can even cause myocardial infarction in certain situations.
