A nurse in California tests positive more than a week after receiving the vaccine

A 45-year-old nurse in California tested positive for Covid-19 more than a week after receiving the coronavirus vaccine from Pfizer, ABC reported Tuesday. Matthew W., nurse from two different local hospitals, said in a Facebook post on Dec. 18 that he had received the Pfizer vaccine and told ABC News that his arm simply hurt one day, but that he had suffered no other side effects. Six days later, on Christmas Eve, he fell ill after working a shift at the COVID-19 unit, the report added. It gave him chills and later had muscle aches and fatigue.

He went for a test in a hospital and tested positive for COVID-19 the day after Christmas, according to the report. Christian Ramers, an infectious disease specialist at Family Health Centers in San Diego, says this scenario was not unexpected. “We know from clinical trials of the vaccine that it takes 10 to 14 days for vaccine protection to begin to develop,” Ramers said. “We think that first dose gives you about 50%, and you need that second dose to get to 95%,” Ramers added.
