A number of public places will soon be open to people vaccinated in Hungary, Orban says

The Prime Minister of Hungary Viktors Orbāns announced on Friday that citizens who have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine will soon be able to visit various public places that will once again receive visitors.

Orban predicted that around the middle of next week, the first dose of the vaccine would have been received by four million people.

“Then we will provide a wide range of services to those who have an immunity passport,” the prime minister said on public radio today.

He said people with a vaccination passport would be able to visit theaters, cinemas, zoos, nature parks, circuses, museums, sports events and gyms. They will be able to stay in hotels and dine in restaurants.

An immunity passport is issued to anyone who has received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine. The document does not indicate exactly which vaccine the person has received, but only the person’s name, passport and ID card number and expiry date, calculated on the assumption that immunity from the vaccine will last for about six months.

Hungary has the highest proportion of the first vaccine dose in the European Union (EU). The rapid vaccination campaign is partly explained by the fact that Hungary uses vaccines produced in Russia and China that have not yet been approved by the EU.

To date, more than 3.5 million people in Hungary have received the first dose of the vaccine, and almost 1.5 million people have received both doses.
