A number of new Telegram features: blur the image to change someone else’s profile photo

Some time ago, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov said that the monetization results from the chat platform exceeded expectations.

In a statement via his official Telegram channel, Durov said they are different from other apps, which take a privacy-conscious approach to advertising.

“We decided that personal data should not be used for targeting and promoted messages should only appear on one-to-many channels,” Durov said.

Quoted on Thursday (8/12/2022), Durov said their advertising has significantly outperformed the market, as well as putting Telegram on a stable path to financial sustainability.

According to Durov, Telegram Premium, which was introduced five months ago, has already exceeded one million subscribers. He also called this one of the most successful examples of social media subscription packages ever launched.

“Despite representing only a small fraction of Telegram’s overall revenue, Telegram Premium is steadily growing every day and may even compete with our advertising one day,” he said.

Additionally, Durov said the feature they are working on will be the foundation for Telegram’s continued financial growth in 2023.

In addition, successful Telegram monetization is said to be able to pay for the servers, traffic and salaries needed to continue developing new features and support existing ones.

“Although some other applications see their users as a tool to maximize revenue, we see revenue as a tool to maximize value for our users,” said Pavel Durov.
