Term ikoy-ikoy many were discussed on social media a few days ago, thus inviting a number of netizens to ask about what ikoy-ikoy is.
Ikoy-ikoy was first popularized by celebgrams at once content creator Arief Muhammad, where the term refers to the gift-giving activity.
A netizen or follower send direct message or DM to Arief expressing their needs, the chosen one will have their request granted.
Ikoy himself refers to the name of Arief’s assistant, Rizqi Fadhilah. He is a person who usually processes help or gifts for follower Arief.
Isitlah ikoy-ikoy became trending, so netizens stormed Arief’s instagram. As time went on, the raid spread to celebrities and other celebrities.
A number of celebrities claim to be suddenly billed ‘ikoy-ikoy’ or gifts via direct message, among them singer Andien Aisyah.
“Oh ok, now I understand more or less about ikoy-ikoyan. And since Arief Muhammad has reposted it, it’s kind of a must for me,” Andien said via Instagram story, Monday (2/8).
Demand is not only high value, such as toys, brains, sandals, to children’s educational books. The momentum of ‘ikoy-ikoy’ was also used to promote trade products.
Actress Nafa Urbach was also not spared from the target of netizens who are hungry for gifts. Nafa opened up opportunities for her followers to ask for gifts for her.
“Oh yes, it’s okay to join the koi koi, I’ll just play with the contents of gopay and shopee pay, okay. So, tomorrow we choose 5 people,” wrote Nafa on a personal instagram account.
Nafa finally chose several netizens who asked for gifts, one of which was an account that said it needed funds to buy children’s school uniforms.
“I want to join you, I just want to buy a school uniform for the children because they are already torn and every time I come home from school I always cry,” write one of the accounts which is then selected to receive the prize.
There are also celebrities who have been bothered by requests for ikoy-ikoy that keep coming, one of which is Rachel Vennya’s celebgram.
“This is called ikoy, the ears are hot, isn’t it all day full of IKOY. This influencer is really working, @ariefmuhammad,” Rachel wrote on her Instagram story.
Actress Nana Mirdad even said that this ikoy-ikoy trend does not reflect good values, but shows a begging mentality without effort.
“I’m sorry if I disappointed not joining the ikoy-ikoyan, but everyone has a different way of giving.” said Nana on Instagram Story, Monday (2/8).
“Come on, Indonesian people, don’t have the mentality to ask for this, ask people for it,” he continued.
Responding to the many celebrities who are disturbed by the trend of asking for ikoy-ikoy, Arief Muhammad as the one who started the trend expressed his apologies. This was conveyed by citing Rachel Vennya’s satire.
“Rachel, and maybe talking to other friends who their followers charge for ikoy-ikoyan, I’m sorry.” said Arief via Instagram story, Monday (2/8).
“Here, we never ask people to charge their favorite artist/influencer. So if you’re bothered by it, I’m sorry,” he continued.
