A young man was taken into police custody on Friday in Paris after being checked at Montparnasse station with an assault rifle, an automatic pistol and their ammunition in his bag, we learned from a police source.
The suspect, 19 years old and from Nice according to information from RTL, was arrested shortly before noon by police officers from the Ile-de-France network brigade (BRF) during a classic baggage check on the arrival of a TGV Bordeaux-Paris.
His entire arsenal was “wrapped and packaged with black tape” in a sports bag, according to police sources.
Asked about his intentions, the suspect then explained that he had to go to Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis) to give someone this bag, the contents of which he claimed to ignore.
The young man, originally from the Alpes-Maritimes, is known for facts “related to narcotics”, said a source familiar with the matter.
A pouch containing cannabis resin and a rolled joint were found on him, in a shoulder bag, according to the police source.
An investigation for “carrying weapons of categories A and B” was opened and entrusted to the 3rd district of the Parisian judicial police (3rd DPJ), indicated the Paris prosecutor’s office.
