The New York subway changes voice for its announcements! No more male voice on the docks, the New York transport authority, the MTA, has this time selected a female voice.
The new voice is that of Velina Mitchell, an MTA employee from Queens. “She has the New York accent but her voice is also warm and she articulates distinctly”, justifies an official of the MTA in the columns of the New York Daily News.
The announcement of the doors closing does not change!
A dozen announcements have already been recorded, to cover the different situations in the New York subway, in particular concerning safety in the subway.
But those who adore the male voice announcing the closing of the doors rest assured: the famous “Stand clear of the closing doors, please” will always be uttered by the deep voice of radio presenter Charlie Pellett.
