A new variant of Covid-19 has been observed in New York (United States) since November 2020. It has been studied by Colombia University and the Caltech Institute in California. Their findings appeared in the press on Wednesday February 24. “They say that the variant would be close to that said from South Africa, and this is what worries, because the South African variant is more resistant to vaccines.”, explains France Télévisions journalist Agnès Vahramian live from Washington, for the 20 Hours of France 2.
This new variant would be responsible for 12% of new contaminations. “Which is not negligible” according to the special envoy. “The authorities say they will monitor the situation but that we must remain cautious. (…) Other specialists must read these publications to validate them”, add Agnès Vahramian.
