A new, unprecedented type of marine pollution has been discovered

The Environmental Education Foundation and the campaign “My Sea” will hold a press conference on August 21, at 2 pm in Riga, Lapu Street 17, where they will inform about the monitoring of this summer’s marine polluting waste and discuss current trends, problems and their solutions related to marine pollution. and on the coast.

More informed that the “My Sea” green expedition took place for the ninth time this year, in accordance with the methodology of the UN Environment Program, surveying the entire Latvian coast and conducting an assessment of marine polluting waste in 42 coastal locations.

According to the first data analysis, in addition to the already actualized problems, such as plastic waste, bags, cigarettes, etc., new types of waste have also appeared – disposable face masks and cigarette filters for tobacco heating equipment.

Information on the specific amount of this and other waste will be provided at a press conference.

This year, the data collection includes additional research on the places most polluted by cigarette smoke or the so-called “ashtray beaches”, as well as information on the most common brands among coastal waste.
