A new threat to the lives of Covid-19 patients! The terrible white mushroom can cause death! – Today’s event

White mushroom-Candida auris- was first identified in 2009. Doctors claim that this fungus causes severe multidrug-resistant infections in hospitalized patients and has a mortality rate of about 70% because it causes bleeding, wound and ear infections and has also been isolated.

Covid-19 and the white mushroom go hand in hand

The situation is very serious when this white fungus attacks a patient suffering from Covid-19. The case of a middle-aged man who was admitted to an intensive care unit in the town of Kolkata in India.

When his condition deteriorated, the patient was put on artificial respiration. He was given steroids, a life-saving treatment for patients with severe forms of Covid-19. But this medicine reduces immunity and raises blood sugar.

After an extended stay in intensive care, the patient recovered and was ready to go home. Doctors found, however, that he was infected with a deadly, drug-resistant fungus.

“We see an increased number of patients with infection during the second wave of Covid-19. There are many people who are ill in intensive care and many of them receive high doses of steroids. That could be the reason, ”says Dr. Om Srivastava, a specialist in infectious diseases in Mumbai.

Fungal infections are on the rise

Doctors in India are seeing an alarming increase in the number of dangerous fungal infections.

There was an outbreak of mucormycosis or black fungus, a rare but dangerous infection that affects the nose, eye and sometimes the brain. About 28,000 cases and more than 200 deaths have already been reported.

Now, doctors report an increase in other deadly fungal infections in patients with Covid-19, especially after a week or 10 days of intensive care.

There are two species of Candida fungi – auris and albicans – that can be fatal to humans. Aspergillus, another type of fungus, affects the lungs and can also be fatal. Of the more than five million types of fungi, Candida and Aspergillus are the ones that cause the most human deaths.

Candida is a germ that can be present on many surfaces, such as shower curtains, computer screens, doctor’s stethoscopes and railroad railings.

Doctors say that C. auris frequently causes infections in the blood, but can also infect the respiratory system, central nervous system and internal organs, as well as the skin.

Aspergillus also remains in the environment and is often found in heating or air conditioning systems. Normally our immunity helps prevent fungal spores from entering the airways.

But in patients suffering from Covid-19, the fungus, helped by damage to the skin, the walls of blood vessels manages to enter the airways.

This infection affects about 20% to 30% of patients who are mechanically ventilated, says Dr. SP Kalantri, medical superintendent of the nonprofit Kasturba Hospital in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

What are the symptoms of infections?

Symptoms of fungal diseases drug resistant may be similar to those of Covid-19, including fever, cough and shortness of breath.

In superficial Candida infections, the symptoms include a white thrush – which is why it is sometimes called a “white fungus” – in the nose, mouth, lungs or stomach.

A more invasive form of this infection leads to lower blood pressure, fever, abdominal pain and urinary tract infections, notes BBC..
