A new test detects Alzheimer’s in its early stages with 100% accuracy

Researchers at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Rowan University explained in a study whose results were published in the Journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science that the new test uses antibodies in the blood to diagnose Alzheimer’s.

They conducted their study on 236 blood samples taken from people to monitor the accuracy of the test in early detection of the disease.

They found that the test detects changes that occur in the blood in the early stage of Alzheimer’s disease, called “mild cognitive impairment,” with 100% accuracy.

The results of the study showed that 60% of those with “mild cognitive impairment” have an early stage of “Alzheimer’s,” while the remaining percentage is due to vascular problems and side effects of antidepressants.

The leader of the research team, Dr. Cassandra De Marshall, said that the study showed that it is possible to use a small number of antibodies, which are transmitted through the blood, in the accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer’s in its early stages.

She added that these results could ultimately lead to the development of a simple and inexpensive method to diagnose this deadly disease in its early stages.

Doreen Technology, a company involved in developing the test, said that the changes associated with Alzheimer’s begin in the brain at least 10 years before symptoms of the disease appear, and early diagnosis helps in providing appropriate treatment for it.

A report issued by the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London, in cooperation with the International Alzheimer’s Federation, in September 2014, concluded that the number of people suffering from the disease has increased by 22% over the past three years to reach 44 million. .

The report noted that the number will increase three-fold by 2050, bringing the number of people infected with the disease to approximately 135 million in the world, including 16 million in Western Europe.
