Some 4 billion dollars: this is the amount invested Delta Air Lines in cooperation with the New York and New Jersey Port Authority for the transformation of Terminal C at LaGuardia, the heart of the American carrier’s activity.

This sum is in fact part of a total plan for the almost complete reconstruction of this airport, considered for a long time to be one of the worst in the United States. Eight billion will thus have been invested over the past decade in all of New York’s airports. Last January, the NY & NJ Port Authority had already inaugurated at LaGuardia the new Terminal B. The latter welcomes companies Air Canada, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United et JetBlue.

“Transforming LaGuardia Airport into a world-class destination is an integral part of our bold vision for a new era in New York City,” said State Governor Kathy Hochul.

“The opening of Delta’s Terminal C helps deliver a state-of-the-art passenger experience, making connections easier,” she said.

A new standard of comfort at Terminal C

Covering an area of 130,000 m2, Terminal C is 85% larger than the two terminals it replaces. If the old terminals were characterized by their cavernous appearance, Terminal C, with its huge windows, bathes in natural light during the day.

Designed for optimal efficiency and speed, the terminal improves the journey for travelers to their boarding gates. Delta Air Lines has made available an automated hands-free baggage drop. Just like digital ID verification devices to speed up journeys.

Delta also offers a dedicated check-in hall on the access road alongside the terminal building. It allows car passengers to check in and go directly to the security checkpoints.

The departures hall includes 36 traditional check-in counters, 49 self-service kiosks and 16 baggage drop counters. A larger safety zone includes 11 checkpoints. It will be possible to add five more in the future. Again, the latest technologies equip this security control area. Signage also gives the passenger the necessary waiting time for control. On the arrivals side, the terminal has five baggage carousels.

The terminal has 37 boarding gates. And also the largest Delta Sky Club lounge in the United States with 3,400m2 of area and a capacity of 600 passengers. Not to mention 80% of additional surface area allocated to shops and catering areas…
