Rydberg was recommended by his compatriot and has already arrived in Marburg. If everything goes according to plan, he can already play on Sunday, June 6th, 2021 for the GLF opener against the Allgäu Comets in the Georg-Gaßmann-Stadion. This is meanwhile “sold out”, the 200 approved tickets were sold out shortly after the announcement.
Rydberg has played his entire career, which has now been over 10 years, for the Örebro Black Knights. In addition to American football, he also plays golf and does weightlifting. In weightlifting, he almost even took part in the Swedish Olympic qualification, but this was postponed due to Corona.
The likeable Swede receives support from his home country from his fans and his girlfriend and he hopes that she will be able to visit him in Marburg soon. The short-term decision in favor of Marburg was nevertheless easy for him: “For me, the GFL is the strongest league in Europe and I definitely didn’t want to miss this opportunity to present myself and compete there.“
Sports director Michael Dalkowski is already planning long-term shortly before the start of the season: “We very much regret that Kalle was injured in the first training session and we told him that we would like to try again next season. And who knows, if Gustav is on a comparable level, we might have a Swedish duo on the offense line in the 2022 season. ”
