The Munin plane came from the factory in Seattle on the American west coast and was flown by a crew from the Armed Forces and the Air Force, writes The defense on its website.
– We have now got the last plane in this round, and can now start focusing on flying. This simulates the start of our path to operational capability, says Thomas Fremo-Bjørn, specialist responsible for the maritime surveillance aircraft.
The plan is that the new aircraft during 2023 will take over the tasks that P-3 Orion and DA-20 have had for over 60 years.
– We plan to start flying already next week. The most important thing now is to get the crew of the squadrons ready in their roles. This is a completely new aircraft with a much better data capacity and a “game changer” in anti-submarine warfare, says Fremo-Bjørn further.
In 2017, Norway entered into an agreement with the United States to purchase five aircraft of the type P-8A Poseidon. By 2025, defense materiel will deliver the aircraft with the necessary equipment to the Armed Forces.
