Did you know that a handful of pistachios can protect your eyes from many health problems? A new study shows a strong relationship between eating pistachios and eye health. What is this relationship? What other benefits do pistachios bring to our health?

According to Discovery Research, researchers at Tufts University found that those who ate just two ounces (56 grams) of pistachios per day for 12 weeks showed significant improvements in their eye health, compared to those who kept their normal diet.

The study explained that what makes pistachios special is that these are the only nuts that contain large amounts of lutein, a beneficial compound that accumulates in the retina, to create these protective pigments.

Half of the participants added two ounces of unsalted pistachios to their daily diet, while the other half maintained their normal eating habits.

The pistachio group showed significant improvements in macular pigment levels, and these benefits remained consistent until the end of the 12-week study. Meanwhile, the control group did not show significant changes.

The researchers emphasized: “Our findings show that pistachios are not just a nutritious snack, they also provide significant benefits for eye health, which is important as people growing.”
