A new strain of COVID-19 has been found in a country near Bulgaria

Employees of the Elisabeth Pharmacon laboratory in the Czech city of Brno have discovered a previously unregistered mutation in the coronavirus, the head of the laboratory, the well-known epidemiologist Omar Shera, announced on Twitter.

“This is a mutation in the so-called Spike protein. It is a characteristic protein that appears on the surface of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The purpose of the vaccines currently in use is to counteract it,” Shera wrote.

According to the expert, the new mutation in the coronavirus is no more dangerous than the British mutation, which is widespread in the Czech Republic. In addition, two weeks ago, Prime Minister Andrei Babish announced the appearance in the country of the first patients with the South African mutation of COVID-19.

In the ten million-strong Czech Republic, 173,000 people are now infected with the coronavirus, of which 7,000 have been hospitalized. 25,800 people died in the country.

The state of emergency in the country has limited public life to a minimum. There are only grocery and household goods stores, as well as pharmacies.

The leading industrial companies continue their activities, but all employees are tested twice a week. The movement of citizens between the regions of the country is prohibited without good reason, curfew is in force from 21.00 to 05.00.

  1. This is the most stupid title ever. How is that Bulgaria is near the Czech Republic? Also, a single mutation in a single gene does not make a new strain. God save us from fake news.
