Toyota according to asia.nikkei.com plans to introduce a prototype electric car with the first semiconductor battery next year. This step would mean a huge breakthrough in range and charging. Toyota wants to be a company in the world that will start selling a serial vehicle with a semiconductor battery.
The new battery reduces the risk of fire and speeds up charging
Toyota’s semiconductor battery technology should allow the battery to be charged to full capacity in 10 minutes and the range on a single charge should be 500 km. The technology solves all the disadvantages faced by electric vehicles powered by a conventional lithium-ion battery. In addition, a planned electric vehicle with this battery should have the same interior space as conventional electric cars and the risk of fire should be significantly reduced.
Unprecedented investment in battery development in Asia
The Japanese government has also announced that it will create a special fund of 2 trillion yen (418 billion CZK), which will support technologies aimed at decarbonization. The fund should also provide subsidies to co-finance the development of new batteries and the purchase of lithium needed for their production. The fund also aims to develop mass production infrastructure in Japan. The investment is also joined by the Chinese technology group QingTao Energy Development, which will invest approximately 1 billion yuan (CZK 3.3 billion) in research and development of semiconductor batteries over the next three years.
