a new season under the sign of the coronavirus

On September 22, the new season of Dijon opera 2020-2021 version opens with a concert by Andreas Staier.

Distancing and barrier gestures

After confinement and the coronavirus crisis which has harmed the entertainment world, where is the Dijon opera today? Well, the Côte d’Or being classified as a high vulnerability zone, social distancing is maintained in the rooms of the department.

A number of seats divided by two in the Auditorium

And this structure which employs 120 full-time equivalents (musicians, technicians, administrative staff …) and which organizes “90 curtain raisings” each year must also adapt. At the “Auditorium” we will halve the number of seats, going from 1,500 to 750.

“Everything is done to ensure the arrival of the greatest number”

Laurent Joyeux, the director of the Opera, wants to be reassuring, “everything is done to ensure that as many people as possible come to the shows” he said. In the room “We will isolate the groups between them, that is to say that if you come with your companion you will be placed together of course but we will leave a seat apart to separate you from the next person or group”.

Mask required during shows

otherwise “the mask will be compulsory throughout the show, hydroalcoholic gel will be available everywhere, a direction of movement is set up as in stores, as far as possible intermissions are eliminated (…) and finally the fact that this room is very large and there is an ultra-efficient air recycling system means that we have optimal safety conditions, much more than if we take the train or if we go to the supermarket “.

The Ministry of Culture to the rescue

So of course, if in theory, revenues will be halved on certain big shows such as operas, the Ministry of Culture has provided for aid in compensation for the losses of ticket offices for cultural structures and the Dijon opera above.

The city of Dijon maintains its subsidy

Good news, despite the health crisis, the city of Dijon, the first financial partner, is maintaining its subsidy of 6.670 million euros out of an overall budget of 11 million. This will allow the opera to continue its policy of “cheap” seats since in Dijon you can see all the operas from 5 euros 50 and the average ticket price is 19 euros.
