Weatherman Frank Deboosere has presented his latest weather report on TV. In his own style, he didn’t think too much about his farewell, although he did make a few subtle references.
Deboosere started with a thank you to the many photographers who sent photos over the past 25 years to show at the beginning of the weather report. Unlike in other weather reports, this time he also referred very explicitly to global warming, including a reference to Monday’s alarming IPCC report.
‘When I started, the average temperature was half a degree lower than now. So it goes really fast. We only have one earth, which we have to take good care of’, he pointed to one of his hobbyhorses. He then switched to the order of the day: unfortunately gray, but with hopes of ‘a colorful rainbow’ for the coming weekend.
‘So, this was my last weather report’, he wanted to conclude, although he had to interrupt that sentence to swallow. “A new season now begins for you and for me, with the astronomical spring,” he bridged the gap between his farewell and the weather.
When the credits did not immediately follow, colleagues Sabine Hagedoren and Bram Verbruggen came to pick him up. An endless row of colleagues was waiting for him as a guard of honour, visibly to the touch of the weatherman. He could do much more than ‘thank you, thank you, thank you’ on the way to the studio of the special Thanks weatherman Frank no longer publish.
