LThe parent.quebec portal aims to support parents of school-aged children in the educational success of their young. It brings together resources that promote educational success and support according to the specific needs of each child, whether they are learning disabilities, mental health problems, delay in a school subject, etc., and depending on the region and the age of the child. This new tool will make it possible to fill an existing void, as parents do not always know where to turn when they want to support their child.
“The portal was designed by parents and for parents,” explained Kévin Roy, president of the Federation of Quebec Parents ‘Committees, which created the portal in collaboration with the Association of Anglophone Parents’ Committees and with the support from the Quebec Ministry of Education. “It is certainly part of a pandemic context, but it is the culmination of many years of work, developed partnerships and sustained requests from parents”.
“The daily life of families has been turned upside down since last March and the situation demonstrates more than ever the importance of having a tool that answers parents’ questions and helps them find resources according to their needs.”
Mr. Roy indicated that the goal of the portal was to make the life of parents a little easier by bringing together useful and trusted resources in one place to help them support their child in their learning and personal challenges, with their special needs in their educational orientation. The portal will also allow parents to know a little more about parental involvement in the school environment. The platform was launched in French and English.
Also for young people
The parents.quebec portal was designed to promote easy navigation. And although it was first created to help parents, it also offers the students who go there tools that can help them, namely the Open School for educational resources and Alloprof for educational assistance, including Web sites are one click away, and Tel-Jeunes for young people in difficulty who need to speak quickly to a worker or to receive help. Not only is a link to Tel-Jeunes offered, but the organization’s telephone number is also indicated.
Launched on Friday, the first phase of the parents.quebec portal will be followed by a second in a few weeks. New resources will be added. It is also planned that the portal will be enhanced with a live chat where parents can ask their questions directly to a speaker who can answer them.
