The number of foreign tourists in Russia decreased last year, the Guardian reported.
This was confirmed by the Russian Association of Tour Operators.
Last year, the country was visited by two hundred thousand foreign tourists.
This represents a 96 percent drop from the period up to 2019. This is due to the closed airspace between the country and most European countries, as well as the inability to use major credit cards.
The Russian national carrier is gradually resuming flights to friendly countries. Interest from Chinese tourists is expected to resume at some point.
Last year, however, only over 800 Chinese citizens arrived in the country. The country used to rely on German tourists, but is now looking for new markets.
It is likely that Russia will try to develop a program to attract tourists from various places.
