IN in the war in Ukraine, we are witnessing cruelty of a new dimension because of the actions of the Kremlin, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said on Wednesday in a speech before the European Parliament in Brussels, BTA reported.
Since the first day of the war, our efforts have been focused primarily on the goal of not allowing (Russian President Vladimir) Putin to wipe out Ukraine
off the map – this beautiful and heroic country, she added. Von der Leyen called for further efforts to find the whereabouts of Ukrainian children abducted by Russian forces.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is included in all meetings of the heads of state and government
of the EU countries since the beginning of the war, pointed out the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. According to him, the EU’s aspiration to provide one million shells to Ukraine by the end of the year represents a significant step towards European defense.
Michel noted that on Tuesday he visited Chisinau, where a meeting of the EU heads of state is coming up on June 1
and their European partners. Moldova is under increasing pressure from Russia and needs our support, the European Council expects the European Commission to propose the necessary measures by the summer, he added.
On the occasion of EU-China relations, Michel noted the close trade ties.
He stated that the EU’s goal is not to end relations with Beijing, but to limit the dangers associated with them.
China is the largest producer of widely used “clean” technologies
– batteries, solar panels, heat pumps, Von der Leyen added. This is particularly troubling given the International Energy Agency’s data that renewables will account for 90 percent of the development of new power generation capacity in the next five years. China will be the biggest winner and, if we don’t act now, Chinese influence in this area will grow even more, she warned.
