A new invasive species, nicknamed the rubber eel, has settled in Florida

As Yahoo! News, this mysterious creature is neither a snake nor an eel – it is a legless amphibian from the order of worms, which occurs in nature in Colombia and Venezuela.

Not much is known about their wildlife, said Coleman Sheehy of the Florida Museum’s Herpetological Collection.

They thrive in shallow, warm water among aquatic plants, and the first specimen discovered in Florida was captured in the Tamiami Canal near Miami International Airport.

Worms that grow to half a meter in length are likely to feed on smaller animals and feed on larger ones, Sheehy said, adding that finding worms in Florida was a big surprise.
