Rising performance despite a general slowdown

That said, according to The Verge, Gemini 2.0 would not offer the performance gains hoped for by its developers. This slowdown in progress would affect all major language models (LLM) and not just those from Google.

A frantic race for AI
If Google (and perhaps OpenAI) actually releases updates to their AI models before the end of the year, it would be a testament to the massive investment of time and resources by companies to stay ahead of the AI race.
In recent weeks, new video tools, improved image generation and tailored search features have been launched by AI players. Next week, millions of iPhone owners will also be able to try Apple Intelligence for the first time.

Project Astra, le grand absent
Despite the impressive demonstration of Project Astra (Google’s next-generation AI assistant) at the I/O 2024 conference last May, its launch is still awaited… Namely, Project Astra combines multiple inputs and outputs in a more advanced and natural way than ever before.
Some have had the opportunity to test Project Astra and according to them, it does not seem directly related to Gemini 2.0 (although it could be powered by it). Of course, as soon as an official announcement is made, we will keep you informed!
So the launch of Gemini 2.0 may well be the next big thing in the world of AI. It would once again confirm Google’s desire to stay at the forefront of this technology.
