The American studio Hangar 13, which also has branches in Prague and Brno, had a single title in the form of the infamous Mafia III until last year. Above all, Czech fans of this popular series were definitely not happy about the game, because it deviated significantly from the first two episodes. Nevertheless, the studio managed to repair its reputation a bit with last year’s remake of the first game, which was named Mafia: Definitive Edition and garnered positive responses from critics and the players themselves. But for some time now in an unofficial way we knowthat Hangar 13 also worked on a brand new brand. And I mention the past tense here only by chance.
Last night, we first learned directly from Take-Two in the financial results that the development of the game, which cost $ 53 million, had been canceled. Subsequently, however, well-known journalist Jason Schreier came up with further information. According to his sources, it was a project codenamed Volt, on which the studio Hangar 13 was working. It has been in development in various forms since 2017. According to earlier leaks, it was supposed to be an open world sci-fi game with supernatural elements, described as a combination Cthulhu and Saints Row. Schreier claims that it was supposed to be an online game with superheroes. It is striking that, according to Schreier, some developers only learned about the cancellation of the project from his article.

The future of the study itself is relatively uncertain, the employees are said to be meeting today to discuss the situation. It is not yet clear whether redundancies will take place. But it doesn’t look like Hangar 13 has another project in development, at least not at a more advanced stage. According to Schreier, it is at least certain that Mafia IV is not created in the studio, speculation about it was never true, although there were some early attempts to create it at the turn of 2016 and 2017, but they ended very quickly.
Volt was a new IP – rumors of Hangar 13 making a Mafia 4 were always false, aside from their early attempts in 2016-2017 (read this article for more: https://t.co/AzNQVoM2FF)
