According to a report, Liverpool will ask clubs interested in defender Nat Phillips to pay £ 15 million for his transfer.
The 24-year-old has firmly put himself in the showcase of a new club after his stellar performances last season. Amid a series of defensive injuries for the Reds, the Englishman stepped forward to lead Jurgen Klopp’s line. In fact, he often played alongside young Nathaniel Phillips, such was the lack of options.
He could ask to leave, however, with Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez getting back in shape.
Also, new The £ 36m signing of Ibrahima Konate has bolstered Liverpool’s ranks and will wait for game time.
According to the Daily Mail, manager Klopp wants to keep Phillips close next season.
However, if he asks to leave, the Reds will demand £ 15 million. That fee has increased from previous reports, which claimed that the Anfield club wanted £ 10 million for player transfer.
Liverpool are aware that Phillips has raised his profile significantly with his unexpected promotion. His departure will be key if his club wants to raise transfer funds for more new signings.
As such, they are not surprised that Burnley has come forward to register interest.
The Clarets could finally lose England international James Tarkowski, who apparently wants to fuel a long-standing move to West Ham.
Phillips was on Liverpool’s free-to-play list last summer and almost left, with Swansea close to signing him.
However, when Van Dijk and Matip fell in October, he made his Premier League debut in a 2-1 win over West Ham.
Soon after, he became a regular, as Gomez and Matip suffered back-to-back long-term injuries that added to Van Dijk’s absence.
