If you send an embarrassingly inappropriate text to your friend, or your boss? Now you have some extra time to save face and delete it, if you use Whatsappat least.
On Monday, the company announced that WhatsApp users now have just over two days after sending a message to delete it instead of just an hour, according to The Verge.
To start using the new feature now, open the WhatsApp group or individual chat where you sent the message (or messages). Make sure to press and hold the content you want to get rid of, tap Delete, then select either Delete for Everyone or Delete for Me.
Before you begin the deletion process, be aware that there is a (minor) issue: all recipients must have the latest version of WhatsApp for the process to work, and you won’t actually get a notification if the message isn’t deleted.
However, this new feature may come in handy and may help WhatsApp get a slight edge over Apple’s iMessage instant messaging service.
On the flip side, Apple still doesn’t offer this capability, and will only do so when an update to the new iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems is released, possibly this fall.
Right now, the iOS 16 beta gives users just two minutes to delete messages — as long as the recipients download the beta, too.
