The upcoming coronation of King Charles III is stirring excitement and anticipation among the public as details are slowly revealed. A new embroidered partition designed by the talented painter Aidan Hart has been unveiled, and it will be used to shield the King during his anointing ceremony by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The partition’s design celebrates the Commonwealth, featuring a tree adorned with the names of its 56 member states. The latest images of King Charles and the Queen Consort, taken by Hugo Burnard, have also been released ahead of the coronation weekend. The partition will offer the King actual privacy, unlike the canopy used during Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. The oil used to anoint King Charles has been consecrated in Jerusalem and symbolizes the Holy Spirit. Project co-ordinator Nick Gutfreund described working on the screen as a “privilege and absolute pleasure,” and Mr Hart’s design is specifically chosen to symbolize various aspects of the historic coronation and the Commonwealth. Stay tuned for more exciting news leading up to the coronation ceremony on May 6th, 2023.
