Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its aftermath are already hitting tourism in Greece. The reservations of foreign tourists have been stopped, and Athens must exclude Russian tourists from its forecasts, BNR reports.
Before the start of the war, Greece was expecting a very strong tourist season. Today, Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias acknowledged that foreign tour operators have suspended reservations for the summer season pending the end of hostilities.
On the other hand, hoteliers and restaurant owners are trying to calculate prices that are affordable for tourists, despite rising electricity and food costs.
Low prices of tourist services cannot be expected this summer due to the sharp rise in fuel, electricity and food prices, according to the tourism sector.
The daily charter flights to the Greek islands have been increasing since April, an indicator, according to the tourism ministry, of increased interest from potential tourists during the summer. So far, Canada, Australia and China have more reservations than last year, with interest mainly in Mykonos and Santorini.
