Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The polemic on rice prices in Indonesia is like an endless story. The increase in rice prices is inseparable from the dwindling stock availability, for example at the Jakarta Cipinang Rice Market (PIBC), where daily rice stocks experience a deficit.
Launching from the official PIBC website, rice stocks as of (25/1/2023) are 14,265 tons of rice. The amount has decreased drastically compared to the beginning of 2023 which was still 25,462 tons. Traders say it’s already a warning!
“Yes, the warning is certain that the depletion of stocks is a sign that there is not enough rice. Now there is not much of it,” said the General Chairperson of the PIBC Cooperative, Zulkifli, to CNBC Indonesia, Thursday (26/1/2023).
The declining stock of rice at PIBC is not only due to the lack of rice coming in from various supply areas, but also because there is still little rice being poured out by Bulog. Zul said that not all traders have received rice from Bulog for market operations.
“Right now rice stocks are fluctuating, the decision from above (Bulog) is also not valid. The cooperative that was promised to give a thousand tons was also cancelled,” he said.
However, Zulkifli himself does not yet know the real reason why Bulog still hasn’t poured rice into the cooperatives at PIBC.

“I don’t understand what the problem is. Yesterday we had a meeting that all the decisions have been made. In his notes, for the cooperative, a thousand tons were intended to be issued, but suddenly at 10 this morning it was cancelled. What’s the story?” he said.
Zul said that there were indeed individual traders who were showered with rice by Bulog. The individual traders receive around 50-100 tons of rice. However, cooperatives that go directly to wholesale market traders have yet to receive promises of a thousand tonnes of pouring.
“Some were given individually, which was 50 tons (or up to) 100 tons. For cooperatives, those that were given directly to wholesale market traders have not been given until now. According to Buwas (previously) all (traders who want to buy rice from Bulog) must be served “Everything can be redeemed, maybe those people have already applied, some have already got it. But so far there hasn’t been anything for market players,” he said.
