American actor Alec Baldwin, who was involved in an accidental shooting that killed a cinematographer during the filming of the 2021 movie “Rust”, pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter, according to a document sent Thursday to the judiciary.

Baldwin also agreed to some of the court’s conditions, including a ban on the use of firearms and the drinking of alcohol. He will also be able to resume filming.

The 64-year-old actor, who is being prosecuted in the state of New Mexico (southwest of the United States), like the weapons official in the movie Hana Gutierrez Reid, faces the possibility of imposing an 18-month prison sentence.

The representative was scheduled to appear before the court on Friday, but he will be absent from the session after announcing his position in writing.

On October 21, 2021, the set of the movie “Rust” on a ranch in New Mexico witnessed a tragedy after Baldwin fired a firearm that was supposed to contain unloaded bullets, but fired live bullets that killed the 42-year-old director of photography, Helena Hutchins, and injured her. Director Joel Souza is injured.

This rare incident shocked Hollywood and prompted calls to ban firearms on filming sets.

Alec Baldwin, known especially for his role in the series “30 Rock”, has always maintained his innocence in this case, and has always said that he has confirmed that the weapon used in the incident did not contain live bullets, and denied pressing the trigger. But these claims have been met with skepticism from many experts.

After his indictment, the actor’s lawyer, Luke Nicas, called it a “terrible judicial error”.

No guns, no alcohol

The documents filed Thursday list the circumstances of the judicial control the actor, who is free on bail, is subject to.

In particular, Baldwin is prohibited from drinking alcohol and possessing firearms or dangerous weapons.

He is also prohibited from contacting witnesses to the case, except “in the context of the production of Rust.”

And the producers announced last year that the project would be revived, and that all the main actors would reprise their roles.

Recently, prosecutors investigating Alec Baldwin’s responsibility in the case have refrained from attaching aggravating circumstances to the charge against him that would have added to his five years behind bars.

During the investigation, the authorities particularly sought to determine how live ammunition was obtained on set, which is prohibited to avoid such incidents.

Police concluded that the film’s weapons officer, Hana Gutierrez Reid, put ammunition in the gun used by Alec Baldwin, rather than a machete.

In August, the representative said he expected no one to be charged, even as he indicated that he had hired a private detective to determine responsibilities in the case.

The tragedy led to a series of civil lawsuits from several members of the camera crew.

In October, Alec Baldwin announced that he had reached an agreement to end the civil lawsuits brought by the Hutchins family, without disclosing the amount.
