Quebec striker Julien Gauthier was first recalled this season by the New York Rangers on Wednesday.
Manager Gerard Gallant did not say whether the 25-year-old would be used against the New York Islanders tonight. Forwards Mika Zibanejad and Vitali Kravtsov both injured themselves in the third period against Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday, but returned to the field. The absence of one of them could be the cause of this recall.
Gauthier, who was sacked in early October, scored well with the Hartford Wolf Pack. In his first tenure in the American League from 2019-2020, the right winger scored two goals in four games.
The Pointe-aux-Trembles native, a former Carolina Hurricanes first-round pick, has amassed 18 points in 96 career National Hockey League games. Last year, he played record 49 career games for Rangers, for seven points and a -9 differential.
