The blood drive began this Thursday, May 27, in the afternoon, at the Pôle nautique de Concarneau. Three volunteers from the Blood Donor Association are present every day to provide drinks and cakes to the generous Cornish people. “Donations are made by reservation”, indicates the head of the Amicale. “There are still around 20 places left on Friday and Saturday. We even accept people who have recently been vaccinated ”.
A drop in donations “reinforced by deconfinement”
The French Blood Establishment (EFS) is facing a significant drop in donations this month. “This is usual at the national level, because there are many bridges in May”, tempers Dr Sophie Prigent, head of the Maison du don in Quimper. “But this decline was reinforced by the deconfinement. People devoted themselves to other activities ”. Still, in Concarneau, the donation rate is encouraging. The reservation system applied since March 2020 is suitable for both donors and white coats. “This system will last because it works well,” says Sophie Prigent.
