1977 – ELVIS PRESLEY. At the age of 42, American singer Elvis Aaron Presley, one of the most popular and cultural icons of the 20th century, dies in Memphis (Tennessee, USA). The “king of rock and roll” won three Grammy Awards, recorded 15 albums and worked in 36 films.

Elvis Aron Presley was born in the small town of Tupelo, Mississippi, on January 8, 1935. He began his musical career in 1954 with the legendary Sun Records in Memphis.

Lacking the privileges that his status as a famous artist might have granted him, Elvis Presley did his military service between 1958 and 1960 at an American base in Germany, where he met the love of his life Priscilla Presley, whom he would marry in 1967 and have his only daughter, Lisa Marie, a year later.

1956 – BELA LUGOSI. Hungarian actor Bela Lugosi (Béla Ferenc Dezso Blaskó) dies in Los Angeles at the age of 73. He was known worldwide for his portrayal of Dracula on Broadway in the late 1920s, which led to his starring role in Tod Browning’s 1931 film Dracula.
