Wanomichi Aiki is for everyone. This is what the flyer issued by the new club says.aïkido founded in Malguénac.

Every Monday and Wednesday evening since the start of the school year, from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Jean-Charles Prono teaches the different techniques of this Japanese martial art.

It was his master Daniel Toutain who passed on his knowledge to him. “I met him during an international internship at the Kerplouz high school in Auray in 2004,” explains Jean-Charles Prono. His sensei was trained by Morihiro Saito, student of the founder of the discipline, Morihei Ueshiba.

Thus, the practices of aikido are scrupulously respected: aiki-ken, aiki-jo and taijutsu. It’s just the name that changes with the term wanomishi which means the voice of harmony.

Classes since the start of the school year

For several years, Jean-Charles Prono has settled in Malguénac. After becoming more experienced, he now wants to share his knowledge. “I was encouraged,” he assures.

He thus created his association: Wanomishi Aiki Sushin. This last word designates the spirit of the center. “It’s an idea that was inspired by Daniel Toutain’s partner,” reveals Jean-Charles Prono. A term used in particular to remind us that we are in Central Brittany.

Seven students (or even eight) began attending his classes from September 16, 2024. “Some have already practiced other martial arts, others are beginners,” says the sensei.

Every detail is important

For the moment, it’s in the gym that it takes place. The teacher provides mats for his students.

After a warm-up period of five to ten minutes, Jean-Charles Prono shows several techniques to the apprentices dressed in white keikogi (jacket and pants) and a belt of the same color. Details are important to achieve a good shot. The goal is to harmonize with the opponent’s action.

Notably, in aikido, we work on weapons, such as the bokken (wooden sword) or the jyo (stick).
