A New Address in Town: The Chairman, a Modern Brasserie Mixing Traditional Belgian Cuisine with Global Flavors

A new address has just arrived in town, it is a modern brasserie where dishes to share rub shoulders with refined dishes, where traditional Belgian cuisine shares the menu with dishes from the four corners of the world. All in a New York atmosphere perfect for a business lunch or a quiet afterwork.

Named The Chairman, in reference to the business leaders who probably sit in several of the buildings surrounding the establishment, the brasserie aims to be a friendly and refined place, where the chairman, but also everyone, can come and relax during their lunch break or after their work day while enjoying good meals. Located in the heart of Brussels, in a rapidly evolving district, very close to Rogier station and Rue Neuve in Brussels, not far from the Hoxton and a future museum, the brewery is nestled between business buildings.

When you walk through the door, you no longer really think you’re in Belgium, but rather in the City district of London, or Wall Street in New York. The decoration is modern and refined, the black and gold marble highlights the large coral benches which adorn the center of the room. The bar, designed for gathering around a drink, has a curved shape which adds a futuristic side. Works of art from the art gallery located directly opposite the restaurant adorn the walls, but the highlight of the show is outside. The interior courtyard, where vegetation rubs shoulders with the office windows of buildings which form a circle around you.

A new challenge for chef Raphaël Nataf

Behind this new address, we find Raphaël Nataf, already owner of emblematic places in Brussels such as La Taverne du Passage, l’Ultime Atome and la Chaloupe d’or. He inaugurates his latest creation, The Chairman. This time, he is not taking over an institution, but creating from scratch an establishment “where you feel comfortable, where the “chairman” leaves behind his tie and offers himself a relaxed, authentic experience”.

A fusion of classic and modern. Here, we find traditional Belgian dishes mastered, while adding an exotic touch inspired by travels abroad. Raphaël Nataf wanted to create a typically Belgian brasserie with a touch of innovation.

, states the press release. Generally, a chairman a traveled around the globe for his work, the restaurant wanted to bring out this aspect with discoveries and a unique vision for each dish, with certain flavors that pay homage to distant cultures. A true “luxury” culinary experience, but accessible to all thanks to affordable prices.

Our experience

For our part, we were able to taste the Corn Pop and its signature sauce, an ultra-original dish to share which resembles giant popcorns which melt in the mouth once you bite into it, and whose flavor is enhanced by the signature sauce. We then opted for a dish that takes you on a journey, chicken supreme with curry and fragrant rice. If you’re a fan of chicken curry and other Indian delights, you have to admit that you’ve rarely tasted such well-prepared chicken.

Not to mention, the perfectly executed dressage. Our guest chose salmon and seasonal vegetables, which she loved. For dessert, we fell for the semi-cooked cookie, an ultra-gourmet cake topped with a scoop of ice cream, and our friend for a delicious pavlova.

The perfect conclusion to a meal as good as it is exotic, where you feel like you’re in the Big Apple, while tasting flavors from elsewhere. The setting and the finesse of the dishes seduced us and we can’t wait to see what happens next, since the place could soon add a string to its bow thanks to live music played in the restaurant. In the meantime, The Chairman will open its doors to the public for lunch and dinner this Saturday, September 16. An address to discover urgently!

The Chairman, open for lunch and dinner from Saturday September 16, Blvd Baudouin 30, 1000 Brussels. More information and reservations available just ici.
