A new 3D mammography machine at the Lorient – Lorient hospital

1 Quality and safety of care

In order to ensure quality care for the Bretagne-Sud Hospital Group (GHBS) at the Scorff and Quimperlé sites, two mammographs now allow quality images to be taken under tomosynthesis. On the Scorff site, in Lorient, this equipment allows in particular the performance of interventional procedures: macrobiopsies or radio-guided lesion identification. From now on, samples are taken on the mammography machine, equipped with an on-board system and an adapted chair. The areas to be biopsied are more accessible, the position is better experienced by the patients and the examination time is shortened.

2 A mood kit during the exam

Work has been carried out to make the room more welcoming to the public and more pleasant for users. While special attention was paid when choosing the mammography machine (image quality, device ergonomics and patient comfort), a pleasant visual atmosphere kit was also installed by the Hologic® company to entertain and relax the patients during examinations that can sometimes cause anxiety.

3 The “breast path”

Since January 2017, a multidisciplinary medical team from GHBS has offered a new service: the “breast course”. This is a unique number (tel. 02 97 06 73 73), valid on the sites of Scorff (Lorient) and La Villeneuve (Quimperlé), which aims to inform and guide patients in their senological journey at GHBS. In case of doubt or the perception of an anomaly by patients or outside doctors, the “breast path” guarantees (among other things) an appointment for a mammogram or a biopsy within seven days of the call.
