Ukraine confirms military advances
Zelensky has given an account of the evolution of the conflict and boasted, for example, of the military advances achieved by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The president has confirmed the “successful” test of the first Ukrainian-made ballistic missile, a milestone of which he has not given details. However, he has pointed out that “it will depend” on Ukraine’s allies its chances of defeating Russia on the battlefield. “I hope they work harder and faster,” he said. To do so, he noted, they will also have to lift some of the restrictions that undermine the capabilities of the Ukrainian Army.
The president stressed that the long-awaited F-16 fighter jets have already managed to repel some of the missiles that Russia used in its latest large-scale attack on energy infrastructure, but he pointed out that they still do not have a sufficient number of this type of aircraft and that Ukrainian pilots need to be trained. He also urged Poland to continue supplying them with MiG 29 fighters, which are not foreign to the Ukrainian army’s pilots.
Regarding the military incursion into the Russian Kursk region, Zelensky has noted that it is progressing at a good pace and has given rise to “many necessary solutions.” He also plans to discuss these developments in his next discussion with Biden, for which no date has been set. Zelensky did want to make it clear that he is not willing to exchange Ukrainian territory in exchange for security guarantees and under any type of negotiation, within the framework of possible integration into NATO.
