A neighbor’s complaint about a new construction destroys the dream of Charlie and 47 other customers

Charles Luijnenburg (31) thought he had finally found his first home, but that dream is falling apart. The new construction project in Alphen aan den Rijn, where he would get an apartment together with 47 other startups, was stopped after complaints from a local resident. The developer of the project has terminated all purchase contracts, forcing Charlie to continue living with his parents.

“This is not what you hope to happen when you buy your first home,” said Charles. “The contract closes on Wednesday and then I will have nothing left. I still live at home with my parents and I could now live on my own.”

The developer of the project Theo Dohle is very sorry about the situation: “We feel sorry for the people who bought an apartment from us. Due to the lengthy legal procedures, we had to terminate the purchase contracts.”

Charlie’s frustration is great, as he fears that it will now be more difficult for him to find a home. “I earn too much for social rent, and private rent is far too expensive. That’s why this home was ideal for me. Now I have to look for something else.”
