: world today news/ The government has approved the deployment of a NATO Force Integration Unit (NFIU) on the territory of Bulgaria, to be implemented under the NATO Security Investment Program (NSIP).
It is envisaged that the element will be for command and control at the battalion level, which will conduct the training of the formations assigned to it, prepare and maintain facilities and equipment to respond to a military-political crisis, says the Council of Ministers.
The main task of the NFIU on the territory of the country will be, in the event of an escalation of the situation, to ensure the timely introduction and regrouping of troops and forces of the Alliance. As part of the NATO force structure, the personnel of the NFIU will be multinational, provided on a rotational basis. Funding of the projects will be within the Readiness Action Plan funds, following the procedures for urgent requirements under the NATO Security Investment Programme.
With the approval of the decision, Bulgaria will be able to fulfill the assumed military commitments resulting from the country’s full membership in NATO, which will increase the operational capabilities to guarantee national security and integration into the collective defense.
